wow...what a school day...
wednesdays are usually quite dreary for me...not least cos my lessons start at 8.30am...shucks..i can't stand morning classes...and the morning rush hour... first class is malay..usually v boring cos e prof wastes quite alot of time..in fact..he hardly teaches...feels like whatever i've learnt so far is self-taught...but today he actually came to my table and talked with my friends and i...not that i was like awed by his gracious presence or anything but just proud that i was actually able to converse with him abit in malay...k lah...still sucky but at least it's a start! malay is actually pretty simple...if only e prof put more effort into teaching, we'd improve much faster...ah well..gotta play with the cards i've been dealt...its self-improvement time then..haha...
after malay classes, i've a 3 hour break...and for the past few weeks, i've contrived to waste the time away doing meaningless stuff...from just stoning at the Kopitiam to playing Winning Eleven at library to surfing the net on my laptop...today was a breakthrough...actually went K-Box at Selegie! hahaha...yeah...they had this K-Lunch offer...abt $8 in e end for a meal, a drink and "free" ktv...from 11am-2pm....quite a fair deal if you are itching to sing....1st time at K-Box for me....have always gone to PartyWorld cos there's where my friends go....i'm just a follower, if i even go with them in the first place...anyhow, K-Box looks distinctively less sleazy...not to say the furnishings are better in qlty cos the sofas look like elephants just sat on it...all ripped up and flat....but at least there aren't cheesy gold furnishings and faux-marble tiled floors there...
made a great discovery....they have "The Reason" by Hoobastank! and, for once, it wasn't a video of a bikini-clad gal running down the beach, or clips of natural scenery from China/misc European counrty, or shots of Singaporean landmarks, etc... needless to say, i chose e song and just screamed my way thru...yup....if u can't sing well, just sing loud.....e loud noise usually numbs the listerners' ears from feeling the pain of the screeching or off-key voice...kind of like anaesthetic...
after that, Strategic Brand Management class.....SMU prides itself alot on emphasising class participation...using it to boast that their students must therefore be outspoken.... well...this class contrives to show the flaw in the logic...our prof, this american guy, tries v hard to get ALL of us to participate actively in class and expects us to fill him in on the details for the case studies...but what ends up is that everyone just spouts FACTS from the case...no analysis at all....basically, mass regurgitation...messy affair that... which is not a problem, considering u do need the facts to build up an analysis..but e problem is when everyone starts sharing their views and intepretations on the tiniest of details which frankly, aren't all too relevant...in e end, we always seem to run out of time and e prof just rushes thru e conclusions.... end result: empty vessels because we dun learn much...and also because u know what sounds they make...
went to catch Corpse Bride with Ashley after class! generally, i love Tim Burton movies cos they're always so creative, so dark....was expecting quite a bit from this show.....and e starting was very promising...the characters were wonderfully caricatured and the song items showed lotsa ingenuity....but somehow, along the way, things just became too predictable...kinda lost its glow and dropped from being a good show to a mediocre one....it was pretty good for a few laughs here and there....and e jokes are darn corny....prob one of e factors to it losing its appeal to me at least...more intelligence please! From a commercial standpoint, i reckon that the producers didn't feel that the market wld be open enough to this genre of films and probably limited the usual darkness of Tim Burton films...they probably feel that cartoons are still meant for kids... all in all...i'd give it 3 out of 5 stars :P
