yup, the 3 words to describe Sin City. i'd heard from peter that this was a pretty unique show, not so much for it's plot but rather for it's presentation. Must agree with that point. It was indeed quite an interesting way to tell the stories. Guess it was almost neccessary, considering the barely-there plot. I'm always one to want to appreciate how directors are able to show the audience the different sides of a simple story, turning even the simplest tale to a philosophical analysis of life or beyond. Sin City, however, has no pretence that it sells itself based only on the 2 sure-sell points. yup, you guessed it. Sex and violence. Before the film, i'd no idea that Quentin Tarantino was a guest director. But after watching the show, it was quite obvious that it was his extravagantly-violent signature style that was stamped over this comic-book-to-film movie. Couple that with the ninja chick in part of the story and you could definitely sense the Kill Bill deja-vu come all over you. From a Christian point of view, this film represents all that is wrong with the media nowadays. I found that, halfway thru the film, where the bodycount was getting abit too ridiculous, the only way i could continue to carry on watching the film was to accept the violence. Yes, in the very same way that i was led to believe that it is ok from women to prance ard barely naked. DESENSITIZED. that's the word for the media's most powerful weapon. I'd read in a Christian book before on how some Christians had made vows not to watch movies or television for months at a time when they felt spiritually down. Little wonder, since it is so easy to embrace the values of what we see, rather than listening to the small gentle voice of the Hold Spirit. Fellow brothers and sister, we ARE at war all the time. And the sure sign that we're losing is when we think we're not fighting the spiritual battle. Sure, we can say "ah, it's okie lah. Modern times what. I'm strong enough to take it" Well, i can only say that i won't take a test if i know i'll fail. I guess that, in the end, it's up to the personal belief and faith as to what to do regarding this matter. For me, i think it'll be a long time before i go catch another movie like this. it's so WRONG.
