gosh..i'm absoloutely drained by today!
BB CARES Carnival - normally a day where all the BB Companies in Singapore go out to do community service projects as part of a nation-wide initiative..really meaningful stuff... as it was, this yr just happens to be the 75th anniversary of BB in Singapore so we're obligated to do something different. thus, this year's BB CARES is a combined event where all the BB Companies as well as their beneficiaries come to the Police Academy and enjoy a day of fun and fellowship in a carnival with programs, games and food stalls, all run by the BB.
Our company was assigned to Man Fut Tong Nursing Home, based in Woodlands. It's a place where elderly folks who need medical or close attention go to for much of their week. Some are even permanent residents. Sad to say, preparations weren't as smooth or as meticulous as it should have been, partly cos of my tight schedule and partly due to miscommunication, but all praise to God cos everything went great! So proud of my Boys today! cos my Pri.5 Boys were all at the NE show, so only a few Pri 6 Boys were there to mentor to all the other younglings...and boy, did they do us all proud. Although the mischievous and petulant side of a little boy did surface now and then, they showed such great care and initiative in helping the elderly folks...sigh...the feeling of a proud father... Anyhow, must really thank God for safety and good weather. Didn't have much officers with me so i was really afraid that things wld go crazy if it rained. It was just as well we didn't have to use the umbrellas we brought. Well, the weather was nothing short of perfect, cloud and windy, a perfect comfortable weather for old and young alike. The carnival was really quite impressive. Considering this was a totally voluntary set up, with the BB Companies paying out of their own pocket to set up the games and food stalls as well as supplying the prizes, it was really heart-warming to see so many Boys being able to participate in this humanitarian effort. Although most of the elderly folks didn't really fancy the games, at least they enjoyed the food. True Singaporeans they definitely are..haha..the elderly folk i was with, Madam Fadimah, was quite onz though...played a few games..haha...and the Boys just piled prizes on her even though she didn't exactly win...shd've seen the smile on her face...that's what it's all abt... I guess that, in the end, we weren't really able to talk and communicate to the old folk's as much as we could, but i'm sure that they'd appreciated the efforts of our youths and it was a wonderful experience for my young Boys. Hope that memories like this stay with me forever...it'll remind me that serving the Lord is indeed such an honor..Amen!
