after church, went to suntec..tina's working for Ducktours, and managed to get us the opportunity to go for their new HipPo tour free of charge~! haha...nothing better than to get freebies from friends...so natalie and i both took it :P anyways...it's basically this open air double deck bus tour that goes around the 'places of interests' around the town area..for one..it's bloody windy up there! haha...my hair was all blown upwards after the trip! as for the tour itself...well...it's for tourists...so can't complain too much when the tour guide tried to make the tour as 'interesting' as possible...learnt some 'interesting' facts too! Did you know: the pan pacific hotel looks like a phoenix? the marina mandarin hotel looks like an elephant? the WWII memorial looks like chopsticks? the esplanande is meant to look like a pair of microphone heads? the 5 suntec towers are meant to look like the digits of a left hand? cos according the chinese customs, the left hand is used for receiving money while the right is used for paying money. and it so happens that there is a fountain in the middle of the palm where water flows in..symbolising good wealth coming in.. also, there's some building that is octagonal in shape, representing...u guessed it...good luck and wealth!
sheesh...ah well..they have to find SOMETHING to keep the tourists interesting...which makes me think that perhaps the casino is a step forward in bringing something acutally interesting to tourists...but the HUGE irony is that our Tourism Board's campaign is "Uniquely Singapore" but our idea of sparking tourism is to follow what others are doing..hmmm.....
